No Excuses . . .

No excuses this time for waiting so long to post.  I've just been sewing and having fun!

I have gotten lots done, let me show you:

Here is that tiny quilt made from the kit I bought at the show that I mentioned in my last post.  It is very cute.  It measures about 10" X 12", each block is 1 1/2" square and the cornerstones are 1/2".  The buttons are sewn to the snowball blocks after it is sandwiched so the only quilting is the little design around the border.  I'm very happy with it.

Another little project:

I won this kit on a giveaway on Jan Patek's blog.  It is about 6 1/2" square and the kit came with the bee hanger.  It was my first successful try at needle turn applique.  I'm pretty happy with it, too.   I watched some of her YouTube videos to get tips for the applique.  I'm still trying to decide where to hang it.

Next:

I finished quilting the Gnome For the Holidays BOM from Sindy Rodenmayer of Fat Cat Patterns .  I enjoyed working on this one, too.  I love Christmas quilts, I have made quite a few of them.   This on is about 50 X 62 inches.  I did fusible applique on it, fusible is my favorite way to applique.  I like the primitive look to it.  I just did a cross hatch in the background of each block and stitched around the applique.  I can hardly wait to put it up at Christmas time.

I had a chance to make some kids quilts for Project Linus:

These are all made from leftover flannel that I had used to make my Grands baby quilts.  I had enough that I didn't want to just toss it, I wanted to use it for something.  I started cutting out 6 1/2 inch squares from as much of the flannel as I could.  Next I made 4 patch and 9 patch blocks from the smaller bits.  There were a couple pieces I added coping strips to so I could get the 6 1/2 inch size.  They were all sewn together, backed with some left over fleece and I even found leftover binding in my scraps.  They are cute, soft and warm.  I hope three little ones will enjoy them.

One of the new projects I am working on is this:

Another Christmas quilt.  I won a pattern from Lea Anne Brummett of Podunk Pretties a while back.  For this one I used scraps from the stash for the 9 patches and applique.  I only had to buy the green dot fabric for the alternate blocks and the red dot fabric for the red strips and binding.  I am hand quilting it now and will show more photos later.  There is a cute red truck appliqued on this one with some trees in the accent strip.

Here is the second quilt I am slowly working on:

It is made from 96 of these 7" circles.  First step is to make the 4 patches, then make the circles.  Next the circles are stitched together in a 8 X 12 setting to make the final quilt.  I have finally made all the circles.  Today I need to press them, then I can start stitching them together.  I will show more of this one and explain the process in another post.  It is labor intensive and tests patience but the final quilt will be cute, I hope.  The one I saw at the show where I bought the tools to make it sure was adorable.

We also have taken a couple of day trips to see some New Mexico sites:

El Santuario de Chimayo is a popular Easter pilgrimage destination for people from all over.  It is a beautiful, spiritual place to visit.  We had lunch at a great restaurant not too far from the church.

Next destination was Quari - Salinas Pueblo Mission

Another amazing site to see.  This was beautiful, too.

You can click on the links I provided to read more about both places.

That's what I've been up to.  Hope you are all enjoying some creative time!

  1. One thing for sure: You have been busy! All of the quilts are very nice, and will be much loved I'm sure. It's good to see you have also been enjoying life outside the quilting room. Thanks for sharing those beautiful pictures of places I'll never get to see. ---"Love"

  2. Holy cow you've been up to a lot! The little quilts are both adorable and I'm sure the flannel quilts will be loved and snuggled bu some lucky youngsters. I love the gnome quilt and would be excited, too, to hang it for the holidays (but please don't rush the snow!). You have me curious about the circles quilt, so I hope you don't stay away for as long next time so I can see how it is done and how the layout goes. The hand-quilting project is also pretty and a great use of scraps!

  3. You are a lucky lady - winning 2 drawings! The bee hive is adorable and I'm sure will look cute wherever you hang it. I love Jan Patek's patterns. And your mini quilt is so pretty - That is tiny!! Great Christmas quilt! I envy you your hand quilting, but I just can't do that any more. Can't wait to see what the circle blocks turn into! I love to go to historical sites - so interesting!
