He measured 5 inches of snow so far in the yard. Right now it has stopped snowing but there is suppose to be more later. And we have a couple of nights with sub-zero temps predicted. We had plans to go to lunch with a friend today, but that didn't happen. I have a stitching class tomorrow morning but I don't know if that will be cancelled or not. I'll have to call later this afternoon and see.
Here is a picture taken Sunday, just two days ago:
That's us on the yellow bike. We went out for a ride before the snow storm was to arrive. It was in the low 50's and sunny for most of the day. This is part of our group just coming into Madrid, NM. If you saw the movie "Wild Hogs", this is the little town where the chili festival was. They don't really do a chili festival but it worked as part of the movie. I love the ride through here, the scenery is beautiful, lots of curves, mountains in the distance and just really pretty. We will not be out on the bike for a while now, gotta let the snow melt!
I have been quilting, Two Piece Puzzle, the red, cream and blue queen sized monster, is all hand quilted in the middle. I still have to do the border and I'm not sure what to do there. The border fabric is navy with a cream diagonal stripe and I'm not sure whether to do some curvy lines or stars or what. I might take it to the quilt shop and see what they suggest. That's about all the quilting I have been working on, it is so big it took a long time to do by hand. I did get a good bargain on some fabric last weekend. It was on sale for $4.00 a yard so I got myself four new yards of fabric. I washed and ironed everything else in the stash that had not been washed yet. Took me all afternoon. I need to spend some time organizing all my fabric again and get things straightened up and put away neatly. Maybe that will be next on my list.
My machine quilting class was pretty good. I did learn some helpful things. Mostly what I need to do is practice, practice, practice! ! ! I plan to do lots of that before attempting it on an actual quilt. I want to make some hot pads, placemats and other small things to practice on before I do one of my quilts.
Other than that, I have let out two pair of my husbands camouflage hunting pants so they will be ready to go for spring turkey season. I did some other mending, just fixed some split seams and general stuff. I want to start on my next quilt project but I'm not sure what it will be yet! There are so many cute free BOM's in blog land, the baby quilt for my new grandson in May and an I Spy quilt for his big brother. I don't have the fabric for the boys quilts yet so they are still in the planning stage. Maybe when I organize my stash I'll decide on something. I want to cut, sew and quilt! ! !
There is a new Moda Pillow Talk blog hop that started today and runs through the 20th of Feb. The button is at the top left if you want to follow along. I also have put up some new free BOM buttons in the left column, too. I can't possibly do them all, but they look like fun! We will see which one or ones I decide to work on.
Well, stay warm and safe through the storm, spring will get here eventually! ! !
Texas weather has been just about as extreme both ways as where you are! I hate it! I'm ready for Spring! Hope you get your fabrics all organized like you want them. ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteWe've got bunches of snow heading our way...yuck! But it's good quilting weather, right? I look forward to seeing what you choose for your new projects.
ReplyDeleteIt is bitter, cold, and windy here...typical New Mexico weather...all of it at once;) What I heard of today, and have experienced myself earlier this season, was "thundersnow"...a snowing with a thunderstorm to go with it. Now that's fun';) The hubby and I walked (yes walked) over to the grocery store instead of driving (too much ice on the ground) and kicked snow at each other;) Fun stuff;) We are hunkering down until this blows over;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Quilting!!
Ah, sunny weather. I have almost forgotten what that is like. We are being hammered here, but you already knew that, right? Organize, organize, organize. You will be amazed at how much you can accomplish when you don't have to search for anything. Keep up the good work!

It sounds like you have managed to keep busy. I love doing bits of mending, hemming and stuff like that. Right now I am replacing a zipper in my grandson's jacket. It's a bit tedious, but I don't mind. Good luck with all those BOMs.

You sound busy with your sewing projects.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about practicing your machine quilting. All the 'experts' say ya gotta practice.
Stay warm, hope your weather is sunny and warm soon.
Snow in New Mexico doesn't sound like a lot of fun but it surely was a pretty sight.
ReplyDeletewhat a difference a few days can make. I like snow.
ReplyDeleteOff to check some of those BOM on your sidebar I missed.
