This little quilt is about 30" square. Kathy Tracy released one clue a month and this is the finish. I am always hesitant to do a mystery because I like to choose colors based on the finished look of a quilt. I jumped in and this one turned out pretty good with lots of pretty scraps used. Kathy is doing another mystery for 2018. The first few clues are posted on her website here. It is free to join if you are interested. Here's a photo of my start on the first two clues for the 2018 mystery:
This started with clue one, an 8 1/2" center applique block with a small border added in clue two. For anyone not wanting to do the applique, Kathy has an alternate pieced block. It will be fun to see where this project leads.
The Small Quilt Talk group has moved from using a Yahoo group to one on Groups.io. Yahoo was having a lot of issues with people not being able to add photos to their group files and other things. It was decided to move to the new platform that works like the Yahoo group but without all the difficulties. If you are interested in joining the group, go to SmallQuiltTalk and request to join. It is a fun group for people who like to make small quilts.
I have also started a BOM with Sindy Rodenmayer of Fat Cat Patterns . Here is the first months block:
The theme is Gnomes and it is a cute Christmas quilt. Sindy releases one block a month for free, then when the next block is released, there is a small fee for past blocks. At the end of the BOM she has the complete pattern for sale on her website. This first block is free for the month of February, the next block will be released on March 1st.
With the other fun projects, work continues on the baby quilt. I am starting on the quilting. Hand quilting will be slow because I used a cute flannel on the back but flannel is harder to hand quilt. The needle drags a bit and I can't take as small of stitches as I would like. It is going to be a cute little quilt though. I have until the end of April to get it finished. I use the blue painters tape to get fairly straight lines, it works pretty well for me.
Guess that is all for now. Time to go play with needle and thread!
