I woke up to the sound of rain . . .

Such a wonderful sound, rain.  We have not had any precipitation in New Mexico for over 60 days and we need it badly.  Spring in Illinois meant rain and lots of it.  Spring in New Mexico means wind, strong, gusty, drying wind.  We have been under Fire Weather watches for what seems like forever and so many wildfires have burned thousands of acres.  Some people have lost their homes, out buildings and livestock to the fires.  Now some RAIN, I am so excited.  It was really not much but maybe Saturday we will get a little more.  It is so welcome!

We recently made a quick trip to Missouri and Illinois.  My brother-in-law died unexpectedly, so we went to Missouri for his funeral and to spend a little time with my sister.  After the funeral we went to see my Mom and Dad in Illinois.  They got to go home from the nursing home the day of DBIL's funeral.  We checked in with them, made a grocery store run and did a little bit around the house.  They are determined to stay on the farm as long as possible so we are hoping they can last there for a while.  We were gone from home for 6 days, 4 of them in the car and 2 with my sister and Mom and Dad.  It was a very quick trip.  In the last three weeks we know seven people who have passed away.  BIL, two second cousins, the parents of two of our friends, a Scouting friend of mine and a good friend of my husbands.  Enough is enough already!

My hubby is getting ready for his spring turkey hunting trip.  He has two friends who are going with him this year.  We have groceries ready, clothes and camping gear out, and guns and equipment ready to go.  Hope he has a great trip and gets a turkey this year!

I have progress on the quilting front.  The baby quilt is sandwiched and ready to quilt.  I just ordered some pearl cotton to do the hand quilting in a big stitch design.  I have also started the applique on the new winter quilt.  I have some of those 2.5" squares sewn together for the sashing and all of the fusible designs for the applique are done.  That all took several days to complete.  I am now doing the hand applique stitching around the designs.  I love to do the hand work and it is kinda cute.  I'll share pictures later.

The brush pile in our back yard is going down.  I cut up another trash container full, the big ones furnished by the city, on Monday morning.  We should be done with this project in a few more weeks.  Our trash is picked up once a week, so we fill it with the tree cuttings and our garbage, then have to wait a week to do it all over again.  I was out in a short sleeve t-shirt and forgot about the sun, so I did get a little sunburn.  It is now the time of year I need to remember to cover up and wear a hat outside!

I am headed back to do some more stitching on that applique!
